The range and advancement of pet meds and treatments
Pet owners will tell that there are as many issues and problems for pets as there are for the owners. Attending to physical, medical and dietary needs for our animals requires a great deal of pet meds and supplies.
As a child, I never dreamed of the wide range of medical needs of a pet. As an adult and a pet owner, I have seen some eye opening medical issues for pets. Many people spend large amounts of money on medical and health issues for their pets.
That is partly due to the advancement in medical technology for pets. There are many more medical procedures available today for our pets than there were offered 30-40 years ago.
Besides the Hollywood pet psychiatrists, medicine and medical treatments for pets have made great advancements in recent years. And with the internet, in a matter of minutes you can find articles and research on subjects from pet dental care to cancer treatment for pets.
Plus, there are some truly advanced medical treatments for pet diseases and ailments. Kansas State University’s College of Veterinary Medicine offers some very good information about different medical issues concerning pets. With data on general health issues to the treatment of feline leukemia, K-State is one of many institutions advancing the medical care and cures of our pets.
As you might imagine, with the many advancements in medical technology for pets, there are medical safety issues as well. Although animals have very strong digestive systems, they remain susceptible to a wide range of health issues.
For dogs, medical issues and diseases can be, but not limited to; tapeworms, hookworms, liver or kidney disease, ulcers, hernia, parasites or cancer.
For cats, medical issues and diseases can be, but not limited to; feline leukemia, tape-worm, cancer, diabetes or poisoning.
There was an article by Reuters in February 2007 about a specific brand of cat food that the FDA found to contain salmonella in some of the batches.
Note: Reuters is the (self-proclaimed) world’s largest international multimedia news agency.
Fortunately for our pets and us, the search and challenge continues to improve pet meds and broaden their range of benefits. Thanks to all of the scientists and researchers that have combined efforts to advance treatment, cures and meds for our pets.
